Corporate Social Responsibility

YHS endeavours to instil in its students a strong sense of social commitment. Each child is a wildflower, indispensable in the bouquet of life and society and deserving of all the love and support we can afford to share.

The YHS team currently supports 3 pre-primary and primary schools - called ‘Khelaghar’ in rural South 24 Parganas, West Bengal and an evening school named ‘Diksha’ for children from urban poor households.

Khelaghar

Khelaghar embraces 3 pre-primary and primary schools with almost 1800 students in its rolls.

Even after decades of intervention, rural child care centres have been unable to provide high quality care and education at the pre and primary school level, resulting in a large number of children being unfit for school at the age of 6 years. It has also led to a high incidence of dropouts in primary and elementary schools.

It is this lacuna that Young Horizons School (YHS) is trying to fill. ‘Khelaghar’ schools are also the nucleus from which various initiatives pertaining to nutrition, health and hygiene, social advocacy and community development have evolved.

Diksha

Diksha is an evening school operating in the premises of Young Horizons School. Annually, Diksha caters to nearly 350 pre - primary and primary students hailing from the urban poor households in the neighbouring areas. Diksha students enjoy the same classroom infrastructure and support as the YHS students.

Diksha students are served milk and a banana/egg daily before they begin their academic time to ensure that basic nutritional requirements are met for each child in our care.

The meritorious students at Diksha are often offered scholarship to complete their schooling from Young Horizons School as they step towards a bright and hopeful future.
